PAL21.INF: Information on PAL Version 2.1
1. About This File
This file provides a quick summary of the features of PAL,
including a description of how to order it.
If you are placing the shareware version of PAL on a com-
puter bulletin board, you might like to upload this file
separately so that callers can download it to get an idea of PAL
before committing themselves to the lengthy download required for
the program files and documentation.
2. Summary
PAL is the Personal Appointment Locator that radically
improves your ability to manage your time.
The most significant improvement in version 2.1 of PAL is
that alarms can now initiate an event on your computer, using an
"invisible hand" to feed keystrokes to DOS or an application
program as if you were right there when the alarm sounds, even
though you may be continents away at the moment. For details on
all changes between version 2.1 and 2.0, see the file
WHATSNEW.PAL.
People who use SideKick can use PAL to read appointments
created with that program. SideKick is not required for the
operation of PAL.
PAL is being distributed as shareware, which allows you to
try before you buy. If you wind up using PAL, you are required
to register and pay for it.
3. Some Significant Features of PAL
Among other things, PAL can:
* show a report of your coming appointments for the next
"n" days.
* search for a particular appointment,
* maintain a to-do list which will tickle you if you fail
to do something after a specified date,
* set a virtually infinite number of alarms,
* make any alarm into a timed event, initiating a series
of keystrokes to be entered into DOS or an application
program, even in your absence,
* run reports on multiple SK appointment files,
* automatically repeat appointments with tremendous
flexibility; e.g., every third Wednesday of each month
beginning this month and continuing for a total of nine
repetitions.
* delete old appointments,
* run with or without SideKick,
* provide online help,
* show common secular and religious holidays automatical-
ly,
* allow you to customize the program for your own needs
and style of use,
* show you a calendar for any month in the 20th or 21st
century.
4. Obtaining PAL as Shareware
The shareware version of PAL is being distributed through
BBS's, user groups, and person to person. The file name for the
distribution archive is:
PAL21.ZIP
The latest version of these files will always be available
from the PAL Software NY bulletin board, at telephone number 914-
762-8055. This BBS operates 24 hours a day, at 300, 1200, 2400
and 9600 (USRobotics) baud.
5. Registering PAL
Persons who try PAL, like it and intend to continue using it
are required to register and pay for it. Paid, registered users
receive a special password which disables the registration
encouragement screens that PAL presents to unregegistered users.
The registered version is identical to the current shareware
version but for the registration encouragements.
ii
The cost of registration is $35. This entitles you to your
password, among other things, as described in PAL.DOC. If you
would like to receive printed documentation and/or a distribution
disk from us, the pricing is described in the file ORDER.FRM.
To register PAL, take the file named ORDER.FRM and either
send it to your printer to fill it out in pen and ink, or else
bring it in to your favorite word processor or editor and fill it
out there before printing it. The ORDER.FRM file contains all
pricing information.
6. Toll-Free Credit Card Ordering
If you would like to order by credit card, please call the
following number: 800-242-4775. This is the phone number of
P(S)L, a disk vendor with whom we have arranged the ability to
take credit card orders.
